Certain goods need to maintain a very specific temperature during transportation, 例如, 敏感药品或高科技成分. Temperature-controlled logistics is focused on securing the safe storage and transportation of temperature-sensitive cargo.

To ensure the safe delivery of goods that require temperature control it takes the collaboration of multiple parties. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to make sure that all parties involved understand the conditions under which the product shall be shipped, 例如, that all follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set out for the goods at hand. The SOP will vary depending on the type of product being shipped and the trade lane.

Air freight is for many the preferred mode of transport for temperature-sensitive goods as it helps reduce geographical challenges, mitigates lack of ground infrastructure and decreases shipment times which helps reduce the amount of time the goods are exposed to external conditions. 另一个显著的优势是缩短了上市时间, especially for goods that cannot afford to be delayed such as new product introductions.
